Do you need to be drunk to go to rehab?

Question by jcdogs: Do you need to be drunk to go to rehab?
I have a friend (really) who says that he can’t be sober to go to rehab, he has to be drunk for days before going. Is he telling the truth or just manipulating a freebie. I’m thinking maybe drink on the way of you have to but not the whole week before.
Yeah, I know a little about surrender as I have been sober for many years but I don’t know what is in a person’s heart and I try not to judge. My question was do rehabs check like this, to this extent. I should have been more clear in my original question.
And he is partially paralyzed.

Well, is he ready to surrender and acccept that he is an alcoholic – because it will just be a waste of time! What is it going to take for him to sober up? Alcoholism is cunning and baffling. If he is serious, whether he is sober or drinking, go seek help before something real bad happens to him or someone else
