Question by Sweetness: Alcoholic needs booze at 5 am to stop withdrawel symptoms, how would they detox and get to rehab?
Just curious. My sister-in-law Deanna is the mother of 4 kids, two adults, two minors. Her alcoholism has progressed a lot in the past 3 years since I first met her until now. The kids tell me that now she is having to get up and drink early in the morning to manage all of her withdrawel symptoms. I don’t think she is going to get help, but i’m curious about how would someone this advanced detox and get help? Please share a story, or any information that you know about this. Thanks in advance.
just looking for answers to the question, not so much for my sis-in-law as she will never get treatment – intervention won’t work, long family history, gets drunk daily with hubby, kids, and her mother. Yes, I’ve called everyone under the sun about protection for kids – no response. I’ve been told being an alcoholic isn’t a crime by childrens protective services and law enforcement. Just curious if she did get help, the medical side of what would be necessary to get her detoxed and into a rehab. Thanks much for all the answers!

Best answer:

Answer by **STARR**
the best way to get help for her would be to contact a rehab facility. First your sister in law needs to realize and want help. If you don’t know where you can find the nearest or best rehab facility, i’m sure you can contact a doctor or hospital and get references. I hope your sister in law gets help soon.

Question by Answers Addict: Do binge-drinking brains and schizophrenic brains look similar?
If you were to compare the brain of a binge drinker to a normal one, then compare the brain of a schizophrenic to a normal one on a brain scan, would the two ‘abnormal’ brains look very much alike?

Could these possibly be confused for one another?

Best answer:

Answer by Milton
No. The binge drinker’s brain develops dead zones where alcohol literally burned off regions of the brain. A schizophrenic’s brain looks the same as any other but on an EEG, the waves will look different. There is a different brain chemistry which alters perceptions.

The Clintons pretended to have religious inclinations at the right times. They made sure they went to churches to campaign and had prominent black clergy pimping for them. They also made sure they were photographed at church on Easter and other religious holidays. Who is the hypocrite?

Question by abby j: What is alcoholism treatment?
My husband has been an alcoholic for three years and I have found research findings proving how alcohol affects brain function. I would like to find out how alcoholism can be treated. Please help me find him a good rehab center where he can get alcoholism treatment.

Best answer:

Answer by ana f
You have mentioned how alcoholism affects brain function. I am glad to inform you that the initiative you took to find out the effects of alcoholism is one of the best ways to treat addiction. Education is a powerful tool. Most alcoholics have no idea how much damage they are causing because of this dangerous and ‘unbreakable’ habit.

I suggest that you share with your husband whatever information you might find about alcoholism especially those about how to get alcoholism treatment. Knowing how alcohol can take its toll on his body functions may also convince him to stop drinking.

Overcoming alcoholism will not only require rehab treatment but also the support and understanding of family and friends. Oftentimes, when an alcoholic fails to admit his addiction, an intervention is done between him and his loved ones. This would make the alcoholic realize his problem and eventually accept the fact that he needs treatment.

Aside from undergoing rehab treatment and joining social organizations like Alcoholics Anonymous, self-control is also an effective alcoholism treatment. It would require commitment and discipline to lessen alcohol consumption. Although it may seem difficult for an alcoholic to abstain from drinking, his very self-control may just be the most effective way to make him stay sober.

I wish you and your husband the best.

Question by destiny n: I would like to find an alcohol rehab for my sister in Cedars, Pennsylvania. How will I do this?
I’ve always known that my sister drinks alcohol, but I’ve always thought that it wasn’t a serious problem. She has just told me that she’s doing badly at work because she drinks too much. She’s thinking about getting herself treated and I’m supporting that option.

Best answer:

Answer by dolores df
I’m glad you aren’t in denial because some relatives of alcoholics are. Please do continue on encouraging and supporting your sister. It will help her get through the whole ordeal. To find alcohol rehabs, you may use the links below. You can also ask her to go to a doctor so that she can get recommendations. Having her join AA will be beneficial too. Good luck! I do hope she gets herself treated soon.

Hi; I am a counselor (with my Master of Arts/M.A.). I have one year of experience as a counselor (in addition to my internship), so I still have a lot to learn. I recently started a new job at a center for detoxification and rehabilitation for those with alcohol and drug dependency. Soon I will be running my own groups and I need different topics to make things interesting and fresh. Any ideas?

Question by The J-man: How do I help my mom go to Rehab, to stop drinking?
Hello, I am 15. To start off, I love my mom a lot. She is a wonderful woman and has done nothing but great things for me and my brother. She is an RN (Registered Nurse) at a hospital, and she baby sits a kid who has a disability as a part time job. There has been a lot of things that have been going on since I was a baby. My dad, is an ex-alcoholic and over the year my family has gotten into debt. And usually when she comes home from work, she drinks. She doesn’t drink with friends, she just sits there and talks on the phone. Today me and her got into a conflict. I ended up punching a hole in the wall and she started to cry. She admitted to my dad that she is an alcoholic and she wants help, but my dad is an ex-alcoholic and I am very proud of him, but she doesn’t want to do what he did (go to these rehab meetings). But instead she wants to be sent to a rehab in Florida. But my family cant afford to send her there and we cant afford to pay for our house if she is also not home working, because my dad cant pay for it all by himself. She refuses to go to those meetings and get help but we cant afford to pay for anything other then that. What can we do to help her? She always says shes miserable, and when she drinks she drinks to get drunk not just to cool down. She loves me and my brother so much and is the best mom possible. But I just want to help her. Please help! I need answers as fast as you can! Thank you so much!

Best answer:

Answer by California Love
I feel for you. Why does your mom not want to do this locally? Maybe 1 town over?
My mom was an RN, and an alcoholic, and had hepatitis c from her work, and with her drinking, she got cirrhosis of the liver, and died at age 60. Show your mom my answer..Dear mom… as the daughter of an alcoholic mother, I literally watched my mother die. After her liver shut down she took 10 days to go, and it wasn’t pretty. Don’t wait. Don’t make your child suffer. Do what it takes to get clean, right now. Who cares where you go,just go. Don’t put your family through unnecessary pain and debt. Your children love you… and you have the chance to make a great life. Don’t waste it.

Question by Lanie A: How do I get alcohol rehab program?
I’m twenty-one and I started drinking when I was sixteen. At first, it was just casual drinking with friends but when I got into college, I became an alcoholic. I was always out every night and I drink an average of fifteen bottles of beer. I would not go home until I felt every part of my body was filled with booze. After realizing how alcohol can kill me and how it has ruined my life, I would do anything to lose the habit. Please help me find an alcohol rehab program.

Best answer:

Answer by Sweet Dreams
get ahold of your local department of human services or health department. they keep local numbers of groups such as aa, even drug rehab.
good luck. im proud of you, even though i have never met you. it takes a lot to admit you have a problem and it takes a real man to go get something done about it. congratulations. and again, good luck.
