How many beers do you have to drink for it to be binge drinking?

Question by Mister Hat: How many beers do you have to drink for it to be binge drinking?
My girlfriend says when my friends come over that I binge drink with them. But we all have like 6 – 8 each beers in a 3 hour period. I’m pretty sure this is not binge drinking. Correct me if I’m wrong.

If you drink more than you would drink a soda pop or water, then you are binge drinking.

Unless you would normall have 6-8 pops or 6-8 glasses of water in a 3 hour period… then what you are doing is considered binge drinking.

    Your girlfriend is right.

I might be wrong here, but to me binge drinking is when you drink til you pass out, wake up and keep drinking….???

That is binge drinking. Control yourself .. alcohol is not a game.

By definition binge drinking is when you ‘drink with the intention of drunk’. So drinking alot doesn’t technically make it binge drinking, it’s the motive that does. After all, I go to parties all the time to have fun(not to get drunk), but I still get drunk, it’s just a side effect of having fun.

Now if you say, “It’s fun to drink to get drunk”, that is not the same as saying “I’m drinking to have fun, but I’m drunk.” Neither are good for you, but by definition, only the first one is binge drinking.

And “T”, you just described my whole week in a sentence. Congrats

You are wrong. That is one or more beer every half hour!

The only way you could consume more would be to hook yourself up to IV line of beer.

If your not being belligerent I don’t see a problem.

drinking an average of around 2 beers an hour is not at all binge drinking in my opinion

In the UK 4 or 5 pints in an evening is considered binge drinking for a male – 3 glasses of wine for a woman

Knowing your drink laws in the US I would guess it’s even lower over there

Six to eight beers in three hours would be considered by most as binge drinking . A lot depends on the strength of the beer, say you are drinking a beer with above 5%alcohol then you will probably all end up a bit drunk but if you drink a low alcohol beer say 3% alcohol that should keep you reasonably cheery. So check out the alcohol content and drink sensibly ..

Binge drinking – 4 beers in a sitting for a GIRL, 5 beers in a sitting for a BOY.

    Technically, you are binge drinking.

If your GF is complaining about this, I say she is no fun. What a stick-in-the-mud. I say tell her to mind her own business.

If your looking for a definition of binge drinking, this is as good as it gets.

The recommended safety limit for alcohol is 21 units per week for men and 14 units for women.

Of that 21 units you should not drink any more than four units in a DAY, binge drinking is defined as drinking eight units in a day.

Now your wondering how many units of alcohol your drinking, it obviously depends on the size of the cans and the strength of the beer, but on average a standard can of beer will contain 1.8 units of alcohol, so you are drinking between 12 and 14 units, looks like your girlfriend is right.

I’m a recovered alcoholic myself (three and a half years) so I never preach to people on how they drink, but as I now work in rehab and for the AA on their telephone advice line, I do offer help when asked.
