Bravo! I applaud you. I am a recovering xanax and valium addict. It is VERY hard. I relapsed twice but now I have been sober for about three months. I just decided I'd had enough chasing these pills that were ruining my life and checked myself into a rehab. Depending on what you are addicted to and your tolerance level for the alcohol and drugs, it could possibly take longer than six weeks. Last September (2006) I checked myself in, and it was no party. But if you stick with it, and TRULY want to be in control of your life without substances to self medicate the pain you are probably feeling inside, all the power to you. In my rehab, they said I would always be a "recovering addict". To detox takes about 4 weeks depending again on what you have been using. But the programs and staff were so great. I had a psychiatrist and worked on some cognitive therapy. Good luck to you. I know you can do it if you really want your life back. I sure did.

my friend! it is not the time you spend in a rehab that matters. it is a matter of life and death you have in you hands now. fix an appointment with the rehab facility, tell them everything (how long, how much, what drugs, and the like) and they will tell you how much time you need.
Your sister will be happier if you are recovering than if you are present at her wedding in a half-baked state.
Recovery is a life-long process and it does not end in 6 weeks or 6 years.
Be patient. Trust a Higher Power and you will be surprised how things happen to your liking when you are ready.

OMG, that's awesome. I'm a drunk, a non-practicing drunk. The program is completely up to you. 6 weeks is plenty of time if it's what you really want. Go for it!!! You can go outpatient if you want but this takes lots of strength. I'd suggest at least 4 weeks of inpatient treatment but this all depends on YOU.

Well, the duration of the program depends on the type of treatment you choose. A short term treatment takes around 4 to 10 weeks while a long term treatment takes around 10 weeks to almost a year. Come to think of it, you really have the time in your hands. I mean, if you recover faster then you'll be released earlier. I hope you make it to your sister's wedding. My sister will kill me if I don't attend hers.
