Stupidity discharge.
You’re being offered help. Free help, and you draw a salary while doing it. That doesn’t happen in the outside.

It really depends, there are lots of factors to take into account, things like:
did you began drinking when you joined the Navy
I would go to the treatment class, it is impossible to fail, they just talk to you, show you pictures of a messed up liver from an alcoholic, ask you when was the last time you drank, ask if your life is better since you stop drinking. it will be placed in your medical records, and if in the future you have an issue with alcohol, or become alcohol dependent, then it would be a medical discharge (alcoholism is considered a medical problem)
sending you to the class is a way of covering there A$$es. that way they can say “oh we tried to help”

dishonorable and you get NO benefits.
take the treatment and move on.
I was in the Army for 5 years and had a DUI, Public Intox, and drunk on duty. Went to ASAP (Army Substance Abuse Program) twice and still got an honorable discharge and receiving all my benefits!
Take what you are offered. You will recover from this!

basically your saying, you want to be discharged so you can go to the civilian world and have a hard time with life.. thats very dumb if you ask me… Tell your commander you wasnt thinking right the other day, you want the help, and you want to be a better person.. dont be scared of the military and all that.. it aint that bad.. whats bad and scary is going in the civilian world with nothing, trying to make money, and trying to get benifits.. i think that civilians have it harder then us military peeps

in the army he would get a chapter 9, and unless he does something stupid, it would be Honorable, failing asap treatment plan….
in order to get an OTH, he would have to go to a Command board with legal representation..
